What anxiety therapists in Los Angeles charge

Fees, insurance and sliding-scale availability across therapists listed on Anxiety L.A.

24 therapists are listed in this directory. The figures below come from what they report on their profiles. Anxiety L.A. checks California license and registration numbers but does not verify fees. This is a small group of anxiety-focused therapists in Los Angeles, not a citywide survey, so use it as a starting point for what to expect and what to ask.

Session fees

21 of 24 therapists list a standard fee
$175–$225
25th to 75th percentile of listed fees
15 of the 21 listed fees fall in this range

These figures are for individual sessions. Many therapists charge a different rate for couples, family or group sessions, and some charge more for a longer session. If you’re looking for any of those, check the therapist’s own profile or ask them.

The fee doesn’t tell you whether a therapist is a good fit. What matters more is whether their training matches what you want help with. For OCD, for example, ask whether they use exposure and response prevention (ERP).

Insurance

Each therapist’s profile says which plans they take, if any. If a therapist doesn’t take yours, you pay their fee directly. If your plan has out-of-network mental health benefits, you can then submit a claim for partial reimbursement.

Before you book, ask your insurer three things:

  1. What is my out-of-network deductible?
  2. What percentage do you reimburse?
  3. What allowed amount do you base that on?

The third is easy to overlook. A plan that reimburses 70% of its allowed amount may pay far less than 70% of the therapist’s actual fee.

Sliding scale

Some therapists here offer reduced-fee sessions to some clients, and say so on their profile. Availability and eligibility vary, so ask when you first get in touch.

If private practice is out of reach

Nonprofit counseling centers in Los Angeles set their fees by income. Two examples are Open Paths Counseling Center and Southern California Counseling Center. Check each center’s current eligibility rules and waitlist. If you have insurance, your plan can also give you a list of in-network therapists who are accepting new patients.

Compare fees, insurance and sliding-scale information on each profile, where therapists have provided it. Listings appear in random order, and no therapist can pay for a higher position.

How these numbers work
Source
Listings published on Anxiety L.A., recalculated whenever a listing changes.
Fee used
Each therapist’s standard individual-session fee, taken automatically from the fee description on their profile. An amount counts only when the description names one standard individual-session fee. Ranges and unclear entries are left out rather than guessed at, and the figure updates whenever a therapist edits their description.
Couples, family and group rates
Not counted. Where a therapist lists an individual rate alongside others, only the individual rate is used, so these figures understate what a couple pays.
Denominators
Each figure includes only therapists who provided enough information to calculate it, and the count is shown alongside it. There are no percentages on this page.
Small numbers
The fee figures appear once at least 10 therapists have a usable fee, and are withheld entirely below that.
