Approach
I work with both traditional, insight-oriented and cognitive-behavioral therapies, depending upon your needs. Insight-oriented, or “talk” therapy, is often the effective treatment of choice for clients who want to work on relationship patterns, life transitions, family dynamics, identity issues, and greater self-understanding. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) tends to be useful for quick symptom relief and specific issues pertaining to anxiety (panic attacks, phobias, generalized anxiety, PTSD, etc.) and depression. CBT involves specific homework, addressing patterns of thinking, and behavioral change. Additionally, exposure therapy (a form of CBT) and systematic desensitization can be incorporated for treatment of specific anxiety concerns, such as social anxiety and phobias.
For trauma and deeply distressing experiences, I utilize Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an evidence-based therapy widely recognized for its effectiveness in treating PTSD and traumatic memories.
